1) Charge the Kindle battery. Charge it for at least an hour and see if the Kindle is working properly. If your Kindle was frozen due to low battery then this will solve your problem. 2) If your Kindle is still frozen go for a soft reset. Press Alt, Shift, R keys at the same time to do a soft reset. Try this first though. The PDF instruction manual is long, but it might be good to have a downloaded copy once in a while. Kindle Reset Instructions by Michael Gallagher You will need to write this down, or try to memorize it, because if it happens to you I’m willing to bet you won’t remember unless you’ve reset your Kindle a few times!
Press the Home button for 60 seconds. A “Reset” screen will appear. Hit the DEL key on the keyboard. This brought my unit back to a stable state, as if I’d done a reboot or a soft reset of the device. I’m told that if this doesn’t work, you have to do a hard reset of the device, which is the equivalent of wiping & resetting your Kindle.
A hard reset restarts the Kindle if it’s unresponsive. A factory reset may remedy more serious issues by restoring your Kindle to factory settings, but it should always be the last resort: performing a factory reset on any Kindle model will completely erase your content and disconnect the device from your Amazon account.
