Missing Network Location Awareness service. When I go to my Connect To menu, it doesn’t show any connections, no LAN, no VPN, no Wireless, no DUN connections. I noticed my Network List Service wasn’t running, and it couldn’t start because of a dependency on the Network Location Service, which has disappeared entirely from my services list.
The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service expects to be able to enumerate the domain’s forest name to choose the right network profile for the connection. The service does this by calling DsGetDcName on the forest root name and issuing an LDAP query on UDP port 389 to a root Domain Controller.
The Network Location Awareness (NlaSvc) service collects and stores network configuration information, such as IP address and domain name changes, in addition to location change information.

So very intermittently, the Network Location Awareness service decides that it want’s to set the NIC to “Identifying” and drops all the connections on the server. This can happen once a day. Once an hour. Once every 5 minutes Obviously this is a bad thing as all the remote users get booted whenever this happens.
One way to get the network correctly identified is to set the Network Location Awareness service to Delayed Start. If that is not working, you can try to reset the network list in the registry. Delete all deletected network profiles and both the Managed an
