Extending Firmata for Snap4Arduino. 13 Mar 2015. Although Firmata is a very complete firmware for the Arduino board, from time to time we find ourselves needing extended funcionalities and wanting to use devices not supported by default by the protocol, such as LCD screens.
Name your custom Firmata and click to download. Once downloaded, unzip and open the enclosed .ino file in the Arduino IDE. Then compile and upload the file just like you would any other Arduino sketch. Use the Firmata protocol running on any Arduino board to send and receive IO from a neural network running in the AnimatLab Robotics framework. This allows you to control a robot using a neural network without having to write any code.
The Firmata sketch “StandardFirmata” is all we need on the Arduino! Just get it from the Arduino IDE examples and upload it (maybe you need to unpin the TX/RX first to complete the upload). Note: due to the lack of quality of my Bluetooth module, I always lower the baudrate which is hardcoded inside the sketch, and set it to 9600.

Right now while the Firmata library has support, I don’t know of any libraries that can act as a wifi Firmata server. I’ve ported the Firmata library for the SparkCore, a wifi enabled Arduino device, and have been experimenting with Firmata servers. But I’ve focused on receiving data only.
