.I have a ’06 Jetta TDI with the 6 speed DSG transmission. How often are you supposed to change the transmission fluid? Some dealerships say never since it is a sealed unit, others say every 100,000 miles, and still others say every 50,000 miles. Recently I learned that it needs a new waist gate valve on the turbo and possibly an EGR issue since it is idling rough.

6 spd manual transmission fluid change? All – I’ve searched and the only things that seem to come up under ‘transmission fluid’ is a myriad of quibbles about if the dsg is a good or bad transmission.
This is the latest generation of VW’s multi-weight transmission fluid for 5-speed manual transmissions in all VW TDIs. It provides excellent protection and smooth shifting in all climates. Although VW says its manual transmissions have a ‘lifetime fill,’ many TDI owners change their fluid every 100,000 miles.
So about 10,000 miles ago I went to my local VW dealer to get 3 liters of manual transmission oil for my VW Passat. Factory fill is a synthetic gear lube, 75W90. They tell me at the counter that they never sell this stuff, it’s lifetime fill, but they can order it. So, at 99,901 miles, I finally change my gear oil.

Use petroleum or synthetic based oils meeting VW oil quality standard : VW502 00(a must for 1.8T) or VW 500 00 or VW501 01, ACEA A2 or A3, A3(A3 for 1.8T). TDI-PD Only use VW 505 01, ACEA B3/B4.Use viscosity 5W40 if available, 5W30 if not available.
